Born in Dallas, Texas, Julian is a style writer and Ph.D. candidate in Fashion and Clothing at the Manchester Fashion Institute.

His work considers the pleasureful, multifaceted nature of clothes and how we experience them. Julian blends his academic and journalistic training to tell such rich stories, and he's now researching the significance of clothing for Black men in America. He's also passionately enthusiastic about Hip-hop, engaging with it as a fan and a source of intellectual interest.

Julian has lectured at universities such as Baylor, SMU, and UT-Austin and presented his research at academic conferences, most recently at The Association for Dress Historians. He began his studies at Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and holds a Master's in Fashion Industry Studies from Kent State University's School of Fashion.

As a recipient of  The Business of Fashion's Third Annual Black Journalists Fellowship, Julian joined the publication to report on the fashion industry. He's since written for Menswear StyleFashion Strategy Weekly, and The Good Sort and provided commentary for ESSENCE, Iolla, and The Federation de la Haute Couture et la mode. Julian currently serves as the consulting editorial director for Donn Sterling, a luxury menswear brand.
